New venue to play Valence, nice day, fun drive through Dingley Dell, great pitch, superb teas, match played in a good spirit, what could possibly be wrong.
Well, the Leeds Castle Fireworks Spectacular (other organised mass pyrotechnic displays are available, till Monday and then a year) being on at the same time and the hamlet of Leeds (other towns called Leeds are available but we don’t mention that one) having one road in and one road out. In, lovely, warp factor 5, out, so slow that I could have run it quicker, and that IS slow.
And losing of course, don’t forget we lost. Coz I won’t.
Ash dominated the first half and large periods of the second half too, but it was just one of those days when breaks didn’t go our way. In all fairness, Valence made the most of the scant chances the Dreadnought defence allowed them and Murphy in goal was in dominant mood.
At one down, Collins un-leashed the Griffiths dragons, with Tom picking out Will who calmly slotted past the towering keeper. But then it was just a litany of ifs, buts, maybes, not quites, hmmms and what the hells.
Skippy Streatfield made a bold decision after the game, to go with a squad of just 3 next week, do be sure and let me know how that works out for you.
We always knew this season would be tough and we are prepared for it and are using it, the hockey is improving, the individual performances are improving, the banter is improving and thankfully, the suppers will improve now too!
