Hello Molluscs
In a great Final Day there were four teams contending for the title.
Could the Whelks (contender) beat the Tiny Winkles in the first game of the evening? No - the Tinies found their goal scoring boots (sticks?) for their last game and put three past a tired Whelks team who tried to hold on to their early 1-0 lead. The best goal of the tournament was scored by Damion Treece (Tiny Winkle) assisted by David Reddington - with a rocket deflection into the roof of the net to give Debs (GK) no chance.
With the Whelks out of the equation, it remained for the Cockles and Clams to fight it out. A draw would give the Mussels the cup - so both teams wanted the win. It was a close fought affair with the Cockles scoring the only goal to secure the Championship - and send the Clams to the bottom of the ocean (table).
So that's it for this year. We really hope you had a good time and thank you for supporting the league.
Big thanks must go the everyone who helped organise things and of course the umpires - principally Dave O and Chris Davies and others who chipped in. Special thanks also to Ed Blake who kindly provided sponsorship.
Have a great summer ahead - and see you in the new season!
Signing off until next summer!
