On Sunday 2nd July, the Girl's Bexley Borough team played in the London Youth Games finals at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre, represented by nine Burnt Ash U14's players.
The girls smashed their 3 pool matches to top Group A but in an end to end match with Haringey, the semi-final went to sudden death flicks with Bexley losing out. Although the girls were extremely disappointed not to make the final, and tired both physically and mentally, they showed strength and determination to reset and endeavour to come away with a medal in the 3rd/4th playoff.
This match didn't quite go to plan either, with the opposition scoring in the last 30 seconds to bring the result to 1-1. Bravely, our penalty flick strikers and keeper went one by one and yet again found themselves in a sudden death situation. This time though they secured a brilliant BRONZE!
To put this into perspective, 21 London Boroughs entered the LYG Games, and Bexley came third. The team received their medals from GB midfielder Tess Howard. What a fantastic achievement by the squad and a great experience that they'll always remember.
Be proud girls!
Congratulations to Molly, Izzy, Josie, Maddie, Darcey, Alice B, Alice C, Jenna and Holly.
A big shout out to the supporting parents and friends, who somehow managed the excitement, tension and nerves of this rollercoaster day, and a massive thanks to the volunteer coaches, Melvin, Jo and Robyn for their hours of coaching and management of the side.
